EXECUTIVE MBA PROGRAM EXPERIENCE

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The cohort is designed for experienced professionals and brings together senior executives, functional leaders and entrepreneurs from diverse professional backgrounds. This creates a strong peer-learning environment where participants can learn from leaders facing different business challenges.
The cohort is diverse, with professionals from technology, manufacturing, finance, consulting, healthcare, energy, consumer businesses and other sectors. This cross-industry exposure is an important part of the learning experience.
Yes. The program is designed around in-person academic modules, typically conducted over four consecutive days each month. The in-person format enables deeper interaction with faculty, peers and industry practitioners while allowing participants to continue working.
If an unavoidable situation requires you to miss a module, you have the opportunity to re-attend the same module when it is conducted with the following batch. This allows you to complete the required academic work and grading and fulfil the program requirements necessary to earn the degree.
Yes. The program helps leaders understand technology through the lens of business strategy, decision-making, innovation and organisational transformation. AI and emerging technologies are increasingly relevant across these areas and form part of the contemporary management learning environment.
Yes. The international component is an integral part of the program. Participants undertake the US residency at Washington University in St. Louis, which forms an important part of the global learning experience.
The program concludes with two weeks of US residency modules at Washington University in St. Louis. This is an integral part of the academic journey and provides exposure to the US business ecosystem through academic sessions, peer interactions and company visits, allowing participants to connect classroom learning with real-world business practices.
The impact varies by individual and career objective. Participants have used the program to strengthen strategic decision-making, transition from functional to enterprise leadership, expand their professional networks and prepare for larger leadership responsibilities.
For entrepreneurs, the program provides a structured opportunity to strengthen capabilities across strategy, finance, marketing, operations and leadership. More importantly, the learning can help entrepreneurs build a practical blueprint for their business plans, giving them a clearer understanding of the right frameworks, tools, approaches and means to apply these concepts within their own businesses.
At a senior career stage, the question is less about acquiring another qualification and more about expanding your leadership capacity. An EMBA can help you move from functional expertise towards broader strategic thinking, enterprise leadership and stronger decision-making.
Not necessarily. The program is well suited to experienced professionals from technical and technology-led backgrounds who want to broaden their business perspective. The curriculum covers areas such as strategy, finance, marketing, leadership, economics and organisational behaviour, alongside data-driven decision-making.
The program is specifically structured for working professionals, with academic modules planned around the working calendar. At the same time, participants should expect a rigorous academic workload and should be prepared to invest time beyond the classroom for assignments, preparation and learning.
Yes, particularly if your objective is to build transferable business and leadership capabilities. The cross-industry cohort also exposes participants to different business models, functions and perspectives. However, an EMBA should be viewed as a platform that can support a transition, rather than a guaranteed career-switch mechanism.
Leading a large team is different from leading an enterprise. The program can help broaden your perspective from managing teams and functions to thinking across strategy, finance, markets, operations, innovation and organisational transformation.
ROI should be evaluated beyond immediate salary growth. For senior professionals, it can include career progression, access to larger leadership opportunities, stronger strategic capabilities, a high-quality peer network and long-term professional relevance. The program delivers this value while allowing you to continue working.
That can actually enhance the learning experience. A diverse cohort allows you to understand how leaders in other industries approach similar challenges, creating opportunities for cross-industry benchmarking, fresh perspectives and peer learning.
The program runs for 18 months. Classes are held over four consecutive days each month, Thursday to Sunday, at the IIT Bombay campus in Powai, Mumbai. The schedule is built so that working professionals in Mumbai and other cities can attend without taking a career break, and concludes with two weeks of residency in St. Louis.
All India modules are conducted in person at the IIT Bombay campus in Powai, Mumbai. Participants travel in from Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Delhi NCR and other cities for the four-day monthly modules. The final phase of the program is delivered at Washington University in St. Louis, USA.
This is a fully in-person degree program, not an online or distance course. Learning happens through four-day monthly modules at IIT Bombay with faculty from both institutions and a fixed cohort of senior professionals, which produces peer learning and a network that online formats cannot replicate. Participants receive a joint degree from IIT Bombay and Washington University, not a certificate.
Yes. It is a formal Executive MBA degree jointly awarded by IIT Bombay — an Institute of National Importance — and Washington University in St. Louis. Graduates receive the degree from both institutions along with alumni status at each, and the management education is delivered through the Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management at IIT Bombay.
An Executive MBA does not include campus placements, because participants remain employed throughout the program. Career progression instead comes through one-on-one executive coaching, the IIT Bombay and Washington University alumni networks, and the senior peer cohort. Most participants move into broader enterprise leadership roles within their existing organisation or through their expanded network.
